Electric vehicles/lithium batteries/solar cells become new momentum of export
On January 12, 2024, Wang Lingjun, deputy director of the General Administration of Customs, introduced the import and export situation in 2023 at the State Council press conference. He pointed out that electric passenger vehicles, lithium-ion batteries and solar cells are our "three new products". The total exports of the "three new products" were 1.06 trillion yuan, breaking through the trillion yuan mark for the first time, an increase of 29.9%.
Wang Lingjun, deputy director of the General Administration of Customs, said that in 2023, my country's exports of mechanical and electrical products were 13.92 trillion yuan, an increase of 2.9%, accounting for 58.6% of the total export value. Electric passenger vehicles, lithium-ion batteries, and solar cells, our "three new products", together exported 1.06 trillion yuan, breaking through the trillion yuan mark for the first time, an increase of 29.9%. Exports of ships and household appliances increased by 35.4% and 9.9% respectively. The export momentum reflects the move from Made in China to Created in China.
From the perspective of exports, it has played an important role in promoting the industrial development of countries around the world. Thanks to its complete supporting industrial system and strong supply capacity, my country exports a large number of intermediate products, meeting the needs of industrial development in different regions around the world. In 2023, my country's exports of intermediate products will be 11.24 trillion yuan, accounting for 47.3% of my country's total export value. Among them, electromechanical intermediate products amounted to 6.37 trillion yuan, an increase of 1.9%; from a specific market perspective, my country exported auto parts to Japan and Mexico, lithium batteries to the United States and Germany, and flat panel display modules to Vietnam and Indonesia. Intermediate goods, these all achieved double-digit growth.
From the perspective of imports, it effectively guarantees domestic production and supply and provides a market for global companies. Last year, my country imported 14.29 trillion yuan of intermediate products, accounting for 79.4% of my country's total import value. Among them, 4.41 trillion yuan of mechanical and electrical intermediate products, 3.2 trillion yuan of energy products, and 1.67 trillion yuan of metal ores. These products are required to meet domestic needs. Production demand played an active role. At the same time, my country's import sources cover more than 200 countries and regions on six continents, and the huge market demand also provides huge cooperation opportunities for enterprises from various countries.
The press conference also mentioned that my country's trade with ASEAN will continue to grow in 2023. Cooperation between the two sides in green energy, consumer electronics, and other industries continues to deepen. my country's exports of lithium batteries and solar cells to ASEAN and imported audio and video equipment parts have grown rapidly. At the same time, ASEAN is an important import source of my country's agricultural products and energy products. Almost all of my country's palm oil imports come from Indonesia and Malaysia. Indonesia and Myanmar are my country's largest import sources of coal and tin ore respectively.
