What are the key points of engine room design for diesel generators?

1. Site selection

  •  It should not be located in a room without external walls to create conditions for hot air ducts and smoke exhaust ducts to be led outside.
  •  Try to avoid the main entrance, front facade, and other parts of the building to avoid the impact of smoke and exhaust.
  •  Pay attention to the impact of noise on the environment.
  •  It should be close to the substation of the building, which facilitates wiring, reduces power loss, and facilitates operation and management.

 

2. Ventilation

  • The ventilation problem of the diesel generator room is a problem that must be solved with special attention in the design of the machine room, especially when the machine room is located in the basement, otherwise, it will directly affect the operation of the diesel generator set.
  • The exhaust of the unit should generally be carried out in an organized manner with hot air ducts. It is not advisable to let the diesel engine radiator dissipate the heat in the machine room and then extract it from the exhaust fan. There must be enough fresh air in the computer room.

 

3. Smoke exhaust

Horizontal overhead laying is commonly used in high-rise buildings. The exhaust pipe should be led out separately to minimize elbows. The exhaust smoke temperature is between 350 and 5500c. To prevent burns and reduce radiant heat, the exhaust pipe should be insulated. Smoke exhaust noise is the strongest among the total noise of the unit, and a silencer should be installed to reduce the noise.

 

4. Basics

The foundation is mainly used to support the entire weight of the diesel generator set and the base. The base is located on the foundation, and the unit is installed on the base. Shock absorption measures are generally taken on the base. When the unit is located on the ground floor of a building, a concrete foundation should be set up according to the requirements of the unit. The bottom corner screws can be pre-embedded, or you can drill holes with an electric drill for installation after the unit arrives.

 

5. Equipment room grounding

Diesel generator rooms generally use three types of grounding:

  • Working grounding: The neutral point of the generator is grounded.
  •  Protective grounding: The normally uncharged metal shell of the electrical equipment is grounded.
  •  Anti-static grounding: Ground the equipment and pipelines of the fuel system. Various groundings can share grounding devices with other groundings in high-rise buildings, that is, joint grounding methods are adopted.

 

6. Storage of fuel

A daily fuel tank of 3 to 8 hours needs to be installed in the machine room.
